Back then, we called the holiday “Chinese New Year.” But that’s so, so  wrong. Because Koreans and Vietnamese celebrate the cycles of the moon too. So I’m trying to break an old habit now, in this Obama era.

After all, the president’s got extended family of every color. (The New York Times ran a story with a fab family tree chart.) His inauguration validated our multi-everything society. That night, the best parties were mixed gatherings; a crowd that was all-white or all-one-color-of-anything was not A-list. Mmmmmm. This is my kind of world!
